Different Stitching Styles

The device which is used to sew the clothes or fabrics or other materials is known as a sewing machine.

The purpose of the invention of the best sewing machine is to minimize the efforts of the people by reducing the use of manual sewing machines.

Basically, the first sewing machine was used by an Englishman named Thomas Saint. He used this machine in 1790.

The main benefit of using the best sewing machine out there is that it increases the efficiency of the clothing industry.

Basically, home sewing machines are invented for one person only, and it has only one stitch type. In the contemporary era, the sewing machines are very convenient to use, and they have very smooth needles and thimbles.

In manual machines, the needles and thimbles work with the help of hands, but in modern sewing machines, needles and thimbles are automatic.

Modern sewing machines are larger, faster, and more efficient than manual sewing machines. They vary in sizes, cost, appearance, and tasks.

Sewing machines can make lots of designs and different plain and complex stitches.

Plain Stitch

Plain stitches have further four types. These are as follows:

  1. Chain stitch
  2. Lockstitch
  3. Cover stitch
  4. Overlock

Chain Stitch

This type of stitch is used in early sewing machines, but it has two drawbacks. These are as follows:

  1. This type of stitch is not self-locking. It means that if the thread breaks during stitch or the thread are not tied at both ends, then the complete length of stitches comes out. Moreover, it ripped out.
  2. This type of stitch in the sewing machine will not allow the user to change the direction of the stitch.

Lock stitches are much better than chain stitches. Though chain stitches are still used today in the clothing industry, due to its many drawbacks, it works with the pairing of lock stitch.

Lock Stitch

This type of stitch is the most familiar stitch which is used as household sewing machines. It works with a single needle a sewing machine that has two threads, one thread passed from a needle and one coming from the shuttle.

Both the threads stay on their own side of the fabric or any material and interlace with the other with the help of a bobbin driver.

The best feature of this type of stitch is that if the thread is broken still the whole series of stitches remains the same.

Over Lock

This type of stitch can be made with the help of four threads, one or two loppers, and one or two needles. These types of sewing machines come up with knives. These knives are used to create the edge or trim the edge of the stitch during its formation. The overlock sewing machines which use four threads are most common nowadays. The overlock sewing machines that use five or more than five threads make two types of stitches altogether. These stitches are chain stitch and overlock stitch. This type of combination of stitches is known as “safety stitch.”

Cover stitch

This type of stitch is formed by two or more than two needles. Like the other two stitches,  i.e. chain stitch and lock stitch, cover stitch can also be formed on any kind of material.

In this type of sewing machine, one lopper forms a cover stitch below the fabric, and the other lopper forms the stitch above the same fabric simultaneously.

The threads of the needle made the rows which are parallel and the lopper threads form the rows which are back and forth and cross all the rows of the needle.
